New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akyem North Constituency in the Ashanti Region, and the deputy minister of Railways and Development, has put in doubt the claim by President Nana Akufo-Addo that the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) cleared the reinstated Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Pius Enam Hadzide.
According to Andy Appiah Kubi, the decision to restate the Mr. Hadzide, was borne out of political expediency, rather than a police investigative report submitted to the Jubilee House; the seat of government.
While, querying the authenticity of the President claim that the police submitted a report to President, the MP added that, the announcement was made to cream NPP votes from the Volta Region at Koforidua NPP National Delegates Conference for his preferred candidates.
Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi’s claims, were revealed in a leaked private conversation he had on a Social media platform; WhatsApp shortly after the Koforidua event. The platform is made up of NPP supporters, and one of them leaked the conversation.
President Akufo-Addo on July 7, 2018, disclosed he would reinstate suspended Deputy Sports Minister.
Speaking to delegates at the National Delegates Conference of the NPP in Koforidua last Saturday, ahead of the voting, President Akufo-Addo, said the investigation on the visa scandal had been completed and per the report, the Deputy Minister was innocent. “I will reinstate him on Monday, the President told the crowd.
Pursuant to his comment in Koforidua over the weekend, President Akufo-Addo on Monday reinstated the Deputy Sports Minister, and the Chairperson of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Kwadwo Baah Agyeman.
On a group whatsapp chat, the Honourable MP, suggested that it was on the basis of political expediency that President Akufo-Addo reinstated Deputy Sports Minister, who is a native of Ketu North Constituency in the Volta Region.
The MP’s assertion is quite an obvious suggestion that the there is more to the matter than what the investigation report revealed.
In the group whatsapp chat, Appiah Kubi, queried the veracity of the investigation findings without establishing the allegations of impropriety. The decision was also taken ahead of the President’s 3-day tour to the Volta region.
Another inference drawn from the intercepted WhatsApp chat by. Andy Appiah Kubi, suggest that President Akufo-Addo, announced the reinstatement of the Deputy Youth and Sports Minister at the NPP conference grounds in order to secure the Volta Region votes for his preferred candidate in the just ended elections of the NPP’s National Executives.
Though some members on the group platform, expressed their disagreement on the assertions, the the MP appeared resolute in his submission and kept to his stance on President Akufo-Addo’s decision.
