R. Kelly released from jail for the second time after another person paid child support to his ex-wife on his behalf (Photo)

Embattled R&B singer, R. Kelly has been released from Cook County Jail after  $161,633 in child support was paid on his behalf.

Sophie Ansari, a spokeswoman for the Cook County Sheriff’s Department, which operates the jail, said that the money was posted sometime Saturday morning. But she did not know who posted the money.

Kelly, 52, was ordered into custody on Wednesday by a judge after he said that he did not have the entire  $161,633 he owed his ex-wife, Drea Kelly in child support.

Last month, he was charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse for sexually assaulting four women between 1998 and 2010 and his alleged victims include three who were aged between 13 and 17 at the time.

He was locked in prison for three days before a female friend named Valencia Love, 47, who is said to be the owner of  Lord & Child Christian Daycare posted the embattled singer’s $100,000 bail, which accounts for 10 percent of the $1 million dollar bond.

Last week, it was also reported that the woman received multiple bomb threats from angry Americans and was forced to evacuate her daycare center.

Tunisian health minister resigns over 11 baby deaths

Tunisia’s Health Minister Abderraouf Cherif has resigned following the deaths of 11 newborn babies at a hospital in the capital, Tunis.

All of the babies died of septic shock at the Rabta maternity hospital between 7-8 March.

Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said investigations have been launched into the state-run facility’s medical, pharmaceutical and hygiene practices.

Mr Cherif’s resignation comes just four months after his appointment.

In a Facebook post, the Tunisian paediatrics society said the infection may have been caused by an intravenous feeding product.

The group also called on the authorities to “shed light” on the case and criticised the “precarious conditions in which health professionals work”.

Tunisia’s public healthcare had a reputation as one of the best in North Africa, and medical tourism is a source of considerable revenue for the country.

But since the overthrow of President Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali in 2011, the system has been hampered by management and financial problems, along with recurrent drug shortages.

There is truth in Manasseh’s De-Eye militia investigation – Kennedy Agyapong

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has said there is truth in Joy News’ investigation into the operation of a militia group operating at the Osu Castle, the former seat of government until 2013.

Speaking on Sources FM in the UK Friday night, the MP said he heard about the operations of De-Eye group when a gentleman approached him for GHC 2000 to be recruited into the security services by the group.

He said his checks revealed that it was fraud and that it was one former New Patriotic Party bodyguard who was training people at the Castle.

“Is there element of truth or not,” he quizzed. ” “There is element of truth about the operations of the [De-Eye] group at the (Osu) Castle.”

“Are you saying that when the boy was training them daily, no one in authority didn’t see them,’ he quizzed again.

He said it was later explained to him at the Airport that the promoter of the group, Nana Wireko Addo, hired to security companies the people was training at the Castle.

The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said Friday that Wireko Addo was initially given access to the Osu Castle as a member of government task-force assigned to retrieve state vehicles from former government officials.

According to him, after the conclusion of the work of the taskforce in August 2018, Nana Wireko, subsequently, converted the office allocated to him into a private business office for the stated purposes of his company.

Government had earlier categorically denied no group was operating from Osu Castle, which was until 2012 the seat of government.

“My checks from National Security have revealed that no such group is operating from the Castle,” Mr. Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at Jubilee House told Manasseh before the airing of the documentary titled ‘militia in the heart of the nation’.

According to the Minister of Information, the group is a company that is into finding jobs for young unemployed persons.

“From Joy News’ own documentary, it is clear that the company is involved in helping unemployed young men and women find jobs, and operates a website that openly states their objectives,” he noted.

How Adisadel College reacted to Akufo-Addo’s mention of NAM1 at school’s 109 anniversary

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo attended the 109th anniversary of Adisadel College held in Cape Coast, as a special guest of honour.

While delivering his speech, he praised the school for the different breeds of people it produced – from legends to ministers of state and some known for notoriety.

“They say it takes all sorts,” Akufo-Addo said.

One of such who fell in the category of notoriety was Nana Appiah Mensah, the estranged CEO of gold dealing firm Menzgold.

“I love music and it is great to know that Adisadel produced A. K. Amponsah popularly known as Agya Koo Nimo the classical exponent of traditional music and the popular Hiplife musician, the late Terry Bonchaka.”

He continued, “Chairperson, I’ve also been made aware that Nana Appiah Mensah a.k.a NAM1 of Menzgold fame for notoriety depending on your viewpoint is a graduate of Adisco.”

This attracted a loud uproar alongside laughter and applause from both old and current students of the school for well over 20 seconds.

Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo has been inducted into the Alumni Association of one of Ghana’s oldest second cycle institution, Adisadel College by the national executive committee of the school’s Alumni Association.

The induction was to make the President an honorary old student of the school.

Venezuela’s Prez thanks military for defeating ‘coup’

Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro has praised the armed forces for staying loyal to him and defeating a “coup” led by the US and opposition leader Juan Guaidó.

During a rally, Mr Maduro also blamed Venezuela’s widespread power cuts on “cyber attacks” by the opposition.

His remarks came during a day of protests in the country by pro-government and opposition groups.

In the capital Caracas, some supporters of Mr Guaidó scuffled with police.

Mr Maduro has retained the support of the military and close allies including Russia and China since Mr Guaidó declared himself interim president on 23 January.

What is the latest?

Speaking outside the Miraflores presidential palace, Mr Maduro referred to Mr Guaidó as “a clown and a puppet” of the US.

“They invited the armed forces to carry out a military coup and their reply was clear – they have defeated the coup plotters,” he said.

Meanwhile, police were out in force during an opposition march in the city.

Some protesters pushed against police in riot gear shouting “murderers” and officers responded by firing pepper spray at them.

Addressing the rally, Mr Guaidó announced he would embark on a tour of the country and summon all his supporters to attend a mass protest in Caracas “very soon”.

“We are going to come, all of Venezuela to Caracas, because we need all of them united,” he said.

Mr Guaidó, who leads the opposition-controlled National Assembly, has been recognised as interim president by more than 50 countries.

What’s the background?

President Maduro has repeatedly accused Mr Guaidó of trying to mount a coup against him with the help of “US imperialists”.

Mr Maduro took over the presidency when his late mentor Hugo Chavez died in 2013. In recent years Venezuela has experienced economic collapse, with severe food shortages and inflation reaching at least 800,000% last year.

The Maduro government is becoming increasingly isolated as more and more countries blame it for the economic crisis, which has prompted more than three million people to leave Venezuela.

Ethiopian Airlines: ‘No survivors’ on crashed Boeing 737

An Ethiopian Airlines jet has crashed shortly after take-off from Addis Ababa, killing all on board, the airline says.

It said 149 passengers and eight crew members were believed to be on flight ET302 from the Ethiopian capital to Nairobi in Kenya.

The airline added that there were 33 different nationalities on board.

The crash happened at 08.44 local time, six minutes after the months-old Boeing 737 Max-8 took off.

It is not yet clear what caused the accident.

An eyewitness at the scene told the BBC there was a blast and intense fire as the aircraft hit the ground.

First word of the crash came when Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed his “deepest condolences” on Twitter.

In an earlier statement, the airline said that search and rescue operations were under way near the crash site around the town of Bishoftu, which is 60km (37 miles) south-east of the capital.

“Ethiopian Airlines staff will be sent to the accident scene and will do everything possible to assist the emergency services,” the statement added.

Boeing, the company that built the aeroplane, said in a tweet that it was “closely monitoring the situation”.

Its 737 Max-8 aircraft is relatively new to the skies, having been launched in 2016. It was added to the Ethiopian Airlines fleet in July last year.

Another plane of the same model was involved in a crash five months ago, when a Lion Air flight crashed into the sea near Indonesia with nearly 190 people on board.

What do we know about the airline’s safety record?

Ethiopian Airlines flies to many destinations in Africa, making it a popular carrier in a continent where many airlines fly only from their home country to destinations outside Africa.

It has a good reputation for safety, although in 2010 one of the company’s aeroplanes crashed in the Mediterranean Sea shortly after leaving Beirut.

The incident killed 90 people on board.

The airline’s highest fatalities prior to this came in a November 1996 crash during a hijacking on a flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi.

One of the aeroplane’s engines stopped when the fuel ran out and although pilots attempted an emergency water landing, they hit a coral reef in the Indian Ocean and 123 of the 175 people on board were killed.
