The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias “Chairman Wontumi” is one of the richest politicians in the country, and he does not spare any opportunity to display his wealth made from government deals and small scale mining.
Recently, he is reported to have bought one of the expensive BWM cars; the 2018 BMW 7 Series priced over US$97,000 which he has been seen riding in the Kumasi metropolis aside his Ferrari luxury car and others.
But while at it, communicators for the party in the region, have declared an indefinite boycott of all party communication, because of economic hardship. They feel abandoned by the leadership of the party led by “Chairman Wontumi”.
The disappointed NPP serial callers are up in arms against the leadership of the party and the government. In this regard, they have burnt every communication gadget the party procured for them for communication purposes.
According to them, they sacrificed their resources to campaign for the party to win in the 2016 elections. They also burnt simcards and used recharge cards they said they bought with their own money.
The serial callers, who claim they have been abandoned whiles those at the echelons of power are ‘chopping’ with impunity have warned their members region-wide to desist from further calling or texting into local radio stations on behalf of government henceforth.
“This afternoon, we have gathered our mobile phones the party bought for us and burn them to register our displeasure to party leadership”, spokesperson for the Serial Callers, Wofa Anokye said.
According to the aggrieved volunteer communicators, despite their contributions to the party’s victory in the 2016 polls, over sixty-two of their members are struggling to make ends meet while their regional executives and government appointees in the region are living in comfort and sometimes flaunt cash and goodies they have gotten since the party assumed power.
They have also warned their members region-wide, to desist from further calling or texting into local radio stations to defend the government of President Akufo-Addo.
Later, in an interview monitored on Nhyira FM in Kumasi, members of the NPP Volunteer Media Communicators, also accused the First Regional Vice Chairman of the party, Mr. Kwabena Nsenkyire of disrespecting members in a recent meeting with the party leadership.
